Sažetak

Introduction. School age includes children and adolescents from seven to nineteen years of age. This group is considered to be the healthiest population because of the low morbidity and mortality rates.
The highest health risk in adolescents is associated with their risk behaviour. The school and university health services were integrated into institutes of public health in 1998 starting with preventive model
of health care for school children, adolescents and students. Thus preventive and socio-medical work remained under the jurisdiction of school medicine, while treatment of school aged children was transferred to the selected family physicians (GPs) or paediatricians.
Method. This study was based on the routinely collected data on child morbidity (7-19 years old) by the Croatian Institute for Public Health. Data were published in the Croatian Health Service
Yearbook 2013.
Results. Respiratory diseases (J00-J99) were on the leading place of the overall morbidity of school children in 2013 (37.5%). On the high second place were symptoms, signs and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified (R00-R99), followed by certain infectious and parasitic diseases (A00-B99), and diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (L00-L99). Conclusion. School children suffer mostly from acute respiratory and infectious diseases. However, results show surprisingly low incidence of mental
and eating disorders, including obesity. Whether this is a result of neglecting these problems (between parents and children, but also doctors) should be investigated and active approach to diagnosis and
treatment of these conditions should be applied.
