Sažetak
The web-sites quality of religious communities in Croatia
is analyzed in this paper. According to R. Fenn, the sociology of
religion is no more concentrated on functional contribution of
religion to social integration, but to understanding the new type of
religion which is more significant on personal and group level. The
main hypothesis is that on the Internet religious pluralism and
the existence of religious market will be manifested. According to
particular hypothesis, the great majority of religious communities
will have its own web-site. Analysis of web-sites was carried
out towards the (sub)components in relation to their contents,
functionality, and quality. These have been categorized into three
groups: the first refers to the technical aspects of a website, second
to the content aspects, while the third refers to the participative
component. The research shows that in Croatia a pluralistic and
competitive religious market exists at least in the virtual arena.
There is still room for improvement, especially since one-third of
religious communities do not have a website. The other findings
include: the content of the websites received highest grades, with
the most valued (sub)components being important links and the
brief presentation. The technical aspect of the websites received lower grades, with sub pages and regular updates having the
highest quality. In the end, it was shown that the participative
aspect received the lowest grades. Aside from this, one should
note that smaller religious communities invest more effort into
presenting themselves on the Internet than larger religious
communities that have a deep-rooted tradition.
