POST-MODERN SITUATION AND ECOLOGICAL CRISIS

Sažetak

The article discusses two convergent problems of risks: post-modern situation ("postmodern nightmare") and ecological crisis (fear of the possible "death of nature"). Postmodern attitude relies on the thesis about on-coming of general instability and relativism, about the risks becoming part of everyday life that follows gradual destruction of "great meta-concepts" of the ascent of modernism. The ecological crisis is discovering that the risks are first linked to a type of development which led us not only to dangerous environmental incidents but also to posing the question on the entirety of social function of the science and technology. Both sources of attitude on the risks stimulate the modern social sciences to complex analyses of the present day situation and to serious diagnoses of the on-coming future.
