ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF PUMPING STATION OPERATING REGIME ON REQUIRED WATER RESERVOIR VOLUME

Sažetak

Topic of this paper is analysis of the impact of pumping station work regime, driven by different sources of electric energy, to the required volume of the city's water supply storage tanks, pumping stations capacity and to Greenhouse gas emissions. Due to the increasing adverse impacts of climate change on people and environment, applications of renewable energy sources (photovoltaic system) and the rationalization of energy consumption becomes an important task for the water supply systems. The transition to other sources and regime of using of the electricity has a significant impact on the sustainability of the water supply system. Therefore, paper analyzes this problems and possible different concepts of the sizing of storage tank and pumping station. The issue will be, due to the lack of actual measured data, analyzed on the basis of typical example and available data. Regardless of this approach, the obtained results enable enactment of the scientific conclusions and thus they have broader implications for the profession. Three regime of pumping stations and thus inflow of water in the water tank has been analyzed: continuously uniformly over 24 hours, during typical
insolation and during the period of the cheap electric energy from 10 PM till 8 AM. The results were analyzed in relation to economic, social and environmental criteria. It was determined that the application of a PV system is possible and useful, and it also has a significant impact on the required capacity of the pump station and the storage tank volume. Therefore, the use of these resources requires a more detailed analysis and a different approach in regards to conventional engineering methods, which take into account the variability of the size of insolation per day.
