Indexing of Croatian scientific and professional journals in citing databases Web of Science and Scopus with regard on social and humanities sciences

Secondary sources of information are indispensable in evaluation of scientific papers or in academic advancement and appointment procedures. Journal indexation in citation databases is crucial for scholars and editors of the journals when they apply for financial support of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The aim and purpose of paper is to present an overview of indexation of Croatian scientific and professional journals in citation databases Web of Science and Scopus, with special reference to humanities and social sciences. The method used is bibliometric analysis, giving a comparison of the number of journals in databases Web of Science and Scopus, their analysis with regard to scientific field, language indexation in the articles, year of indexation, impact factor, h-index of individual authors in best rated journals in JCR database, and indexing of foreign authors in particular journals. The bibliometric results have shown that at the beginning of 2013, 62 Croatian scientific and professional journals, including 28 from humanities and social science have been indexed in three citation indexes of Web of Science. English language is dominant in the domestic social fields journals indexed in Social Sciences Citation Index in 2012. About half of the processedpapersbelong to Croatian authors, while other half are written by foreign authors. According to data of Journal Citation Reports, The Social Sciences Edition for 2011, of all Croatian journals, Collegium Antropologicum has the highest impact factor (0,614). At the beginning of 2013, 120 Croatian scientific and professional journals from all fields and 47 from social and humanities sciences were indexed in Scopus.
