Sažetak
A therapy of occlusive arterial disease (OAD) of the legs includes percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, different surgical measures and/or conservative methods, including physical therapy and drugs. Lately hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) has also been used to this end. There are, however, many controversial opinions regarding the HBO effects. It is believed that the -vasoconstrictive action of oxygen, especially evident in cerebral circulation. could depress the beneficial effect of HBO. The effects of HBO on arterial circulation in lower legs were comparatively examined in patients with OAD and in a group of young healthy persons by means of bilateral impendance rheography. Owing to HBO the morphological changes of the rheographic curves of the patients were better visible. A decrease in pulse frequency was marked in both groups. Bradycardia was present in compressed air breathing; it was more pronounced in HBO conditions. A reduction of rheographically recorded pulse volume and volume perfusion in HBO conditions was more noticeable in the group of OAD patients.
