The elimination of pests from the rare library materials in the National and University Library

Sažetak
The elimination of microorganisms and insects from some books with biological damages from Department for Special Collections of the National Library of Serbia using Veloxy system (anoxia and anoxia in combination with thymol) have been presented. The visible biological damages were observed on this books, also determined using LIGHTNING MVP ® device. It is shown that this method, although reducing the degree of contamination of the material was not completely effective. Because of that, before treatment is necessary identify contaminants and the degree of contamination and therefore use the most effective known method of pest control, or make a modification to remove, and protect the books from microorganisms and other biological contaminants. However, prevention (appropriate conditions and storage place) is one of the most important factors in the protection and preservation of library materials.
