A New Species of the Genus Cyclotella Kützing

Sažetak
In the course of 1973 and 1974, the Republican Hydrometeorological Institute of Croatia performed ecological investigations on the river Sava including bacteriological, chemical and biological analyses, in order to establish the degree of pollution and the process of selfpurification of the stream. During the treatment of the material from river profiles of Brezice, Zaprude, Otok and Lukavac a diatom was observed of genus Cyclotella, the species of which could not be identified with any known forms, so an attempot was made diagnose the species found. This work presents geomorphological and physicochemical features of the ecosystem where the Cyclotella in question was found.
Based on anatomical and morphological features of the frustele, a new species, Cyclotella juriljii v. j. (sp. nova) is described.
The reference cultures are deposited in the Republican Hydrometeorological Institute, Zagreb, Grič 3.
