Sažetak

Theatre between Culture and Time. Due to the influence on cultural space and to the particular nature of theatre expression, the theatre seems to be much more susceptible to social changes than literature or any other art form. The conceptual asymmetry between theatre and society is especially noticeable in 1918 with regard to changes in types and subjects of art works, influencing the professional identity of artists and critics at the same time. The process of different social structuring affects the entire theatre organism, revealing the relationship of previously influential artists such as Srećko Albini, Josip Bach and Ivo Raić to their contemporaries and followers Branko Gavella in drama, and Milan Sachs and Krešimir Baranović in opera. The subject matter exposes characteristic cultural situations and theatre productions that illustrate the artistic climate in theatre and the model of social behavior. The paper focuses on the events that reflect the transformation of indicative ideas and theatre categories in the final year of the World War One.
