A Survey and Analysis of the Flora in the Turopolje Area

Sažetak
The Turopolje area is situated between the rivers Sava and Kupa and mountain Vukomeričke gorice (Fig. 1.).
The survey of the flora consists of 534 species and subspecies, 331 genera and 93 families of vascular plants (Pteridophyta 8, Gymnosper- mae — 1, Dycotyledones — 398, Monocotyledones — 136). The most represented families are: Poaceae (53), Asteraceae (39) and Fabaceae (37). A total of 83 taxa has now been recorded in Turopolje for the first time.
In the spectrum of life forms predominant are hemicryptophytes (45.88%), followed by therophytes (23.40%), hydrophytes and hemihydro- phytes (10.30%), geophytes (9.00%), phanerophytes (8.26%) and hame- phytes (2.80%). The domination of hemicryptophytes is no doubt a consequence of the predominant role of herbaceous associations in the Turopolje area and is also in keeping with the Central European type of biological spectrum.
The analysis of flora elements indicates that the following floral elements are represented: Euro-Asian (37.27%), circumholarctic (8.99%), Boreal (1.31%), European (8.43%), South-European (7.68%), Central-European (6.74%), Mediterranean (1.87%), Pontic (1.50%), Illyrian (1.31%)» Atlantic (1.12%), the group of wide spread plants (19.66%) and of the adventive plants (4.12%). Such ratios of floral elements are in keeping with the geographical position, ecological characteristics of habitats but they also point to a transitive character of Turopolje with regard to its phytogeographical position (between Illyrian and Central-European floral areas).
