Sažetak

Research focuses on two different teaching methods which can be used in high school biology education while learning on cell structure, function and functions of cell organelles. Main aim of the research was to examine the influence of cell model creation on pupils' achievements, with reference to quality of knowledge. Experiment
included 47 examinees from two first grades of Medical School Ante Kuzmanićin Zadar, Nurse and general care technician programme. During the research experimental group of pupils learnt about cell structure by creating models, and the control group used the technique of learning from biology textbook. After four school lessons pupils from both groups were examined using Crooks model based test. The aim was todetermine the level of reproductive knowledge and conceptual understanding with application.Difference in acquired knowledge between control and experimental group was examined using T-test method. Research results confirm the first hypothesis in favour ofexperimental group. Final test indicated statistically significant advantage of pupils from experimental group. Correlation between initial test results and previous biology marks in elementary school was not confirmed. According to the author the main obstacle is small number of teaching units with themes that could be comprehended by using model creation as a teaching method.
