Sažetak

The paper presents the first research in Croatia on the determination of the quantities and qualities of domestic wool from the lstrian Cres Lošinj region in order to find out the possibilities of its use and to intensify the interest of our textile industry. Field survey data of the total number of sheep, breeds, sorts, crossbreeeds and some data on the quality of wool are given. Different breeds, sorts, and crossbreeds of the lstrian sheep exist in small flocks which may result in a greater variety of wool quality. The Cres Lošinj region boasts a significant number of sheep, maintly of the sort of creska pramenka, and fewer crossbreeds of creska pramenka and württemberg. First laboratory testing indicate that crossbreeding causes decrease in fibre fineness.
