Sažetak

An exact micro- experiment was set on the experimental field of Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb during the period of 2008/2009. The goal was to determine the effect of sowing period on development of plants before wintertime and grain yield of modern oil rape varieties and hybrids. By sowing oil rape in the last pentade of August (27th of August), there was achieved a significantly higher length of hypocotyls, length of epicotyls, root length, stem dry matter mass and root dry matter mass in relation to the sowing in the first pentade of September (4th of September). A higher grain yield for 3.39% was achieved by sowing oil rape earlier, but that difference was not statistically justified. Oil rape hybrids had a significantly thicker hypocotyl, higher stem dry matter mass and higher root dry matter mass which resulted in 10% higher grain yield with the hybrids in comparison to the oil rape varieties. Significantly highest grain yield was achieved by NK Toccata hybrid.
