Sažetak

Scientific work of Andrija Mohorovicic is a quality new step in seismology. He was the first one who proved that Earth's crust exists and presented clear and complete picture of that part of Earth. He was the first one to establish the fact that a level surface (discontinuity) which separates the crust from Earth's mantle at the depth of 54 km (or 55 km, which is the number found in some other texts). Thus, earthquake in the Kupa River valley from 1909. is found in every seismological textbook and represents an important part of development of this science. Due to great significance of these discoveries, level surface dividing crust from the mantle has been named Mohorovicic discontinuity (MOHO or M - discountinuiti), and analytical expression for seismological waves speed in Earth's crust is called Mohorovicic law.

Dr. Stjepan Mohorovicic is the one who continues
his father's research work. Together, they founded a special way of research named Zagreb school. Based on his father's steps, he started scientific work in seismology continuing his basic invention. He developed a new theoretical method of defining earthquake depth and gave the first proof for existence of Mohorovicic discontinuity. With that method he discovered existence of smaller additional discontinuity in Earth's crust. In 1924. he stated a theory on Moon formation claiming that the Moon also has its crust and Mohorovicic discontinuity.

Academician Andre Mohorovicic decided on and devoted himself to scientific research and analysis of historical development of architecture and urban entities in Croatia. He also designed and constructed several architectural residential buildings and industrial installations.
