EQUIPMENT FOR CLEANING OIL AND OIL-BASED SPILLS ON INLAND WATERS

Sažetak
SUMMARY: The importance of transport in inland navigation is a great consideration in Croatian economy. World and domestic experience has made it evident how important protection measures are in this process. If safe loading, transport and unloading of oil and oil-based products is to be achieved in inland navigation ports, occupational safety measures, fire protection and environmental protection measures need to be implemented. In spite of all the measures which may be implemented to the letter, accidents do occur. Speedy intervention and proper choice of cleaning agents for treating oil spills may reduce damage and be made more efficient. Devices used in such events, oil barriers, oil absorbers, chemical agents, oil collectors and other devices are selected based on experience, research and new developments in specialised companies.
In view of the fact that inland water transport in Croatia is intimately linked with the inland waters of other countries, international safety standards are to be implemented.
