Study of background pollution of air and precipitation

Sažetak

Following the recommendation of the World Meteorological Organization concerning a special network of regional stations for the control of background pollution of air and precipitation, in July 1971 the following four stations were installed: at the Meteorological Observatory of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics on Puntijarka (1000 m), at the Meteorological Station on the island of Lastovo, and for the sake of comparison of results also at the Meteorological Aerological Observatory Zagreb-Maksimir and Zagreb-Grič. In monthly samples of air and precipitation taken at the Meteorological Aerological Observatory Zagreb-Maksimir and at the Meteorological Observatory of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics Puntijarka large differences were found in the concentration of NH4+, NO3-, SO4 2- and Ca++ ions, particularly between summer and winter months. In the samples from the Meteorological Station Lastovo large quantities of chlorides and of sodium and magnesium ions were found.
