Sažetak

Periodontal diseases are caused by microorganisms from dentobacterial plaque. However in each individual different modifiying factors have great influence on the occurence and course of disease, such as some systemic conditions and diseases, as well as local conditions, such as occlusion. Many investigations have been done in order to elucify that connection, but it still remains unclear.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether occlusal disturbances in periodontal patients exist at all, what their degree of intensity is according to Helkimo’s Occlusal Index, and whether there is difference in the frequency of occurence of these disorders and their degrees in different groups of periodontal patients.
Eighty-two examinees were subjected to a clinical examination and divided into two groups with regard to the percentage and degree of clinical attachment loss (CAL) on each tooth. After occlusal analysis each patient was scored according to the criteria of Helkimo’s OI. Chi--square test revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the frequency and distribution of Helkimo’s occlusal index in each of the examinated groups of patients.
