Sažetak

Phytopathogenic fungus Neofusicoccum parvum is considered a serious pathogen of grapevine wood worldwide and is known to cause decline, or even complete dieback of infected grapevines. Disease which it causes is often known as botryosphaeria dieback of grapevine. Species Neofusicoccum parvum belongs to family Botryosphaeriaceae from which another 22 species of varied pathogenicity are known to cause similar symptoms in grapevine wood, while only 2 of those species were described in Croatia. Symptoms of grapevine decline and dieback observed in Croatia were typically associated with fungi causing eutypa dieback and esca diseases, but recent research into aetiology of grapevine trunk diseases in Croatia showed that the observed symptoms are in fact associated with fungi from Botryosphaeriaceae, among which species Neofusicoccum parvum, reported for the first time in Croatia, was also determined the most virulent. It can be concluded that species Neofusicoccum parvum, alongside other species from Botryosphaeriaceae infecting grapevine wood, could have a dominant role in aetiology of grapevine trunk diseases in Croatia, therefore further research of its epidemiology and control strategies should be conducted.
