Sažetak

Olive is an important cultivated plant in Croatia and in the world. It is subject to a small number of diseases, and the most important are mycoses. Verticillium wilt is one of the most important diseases of olive, but so far in Croatia it has not been scientifically proven. Symptoms of wilt, observed in a private olive orchard in Istria, resembled the symptoms of various vascular mycoses of olive, therefore the affected trees were sampled for analysis. A fungus was isolated from all the samples and was identified as Verticillium dahliae Kleb following its morphological characterization and analysis of molecular marker ITS. This finding was the first scientific proof of V. dahliae on olive in Istria. It was concluded that in order to prevent the spread of this pathogen in Croatia and to establish a clearer picture of the etiology of diseases involving symptoms of wilting shoots or whole olive trees, it is necessary to carry out further research and monitoring of planting material and soil in olive nurseries in the affected area of the country.
