Sažetak

The symposium Music in the Museum/ Museums of Music was held in Zagreb from June 16 to June 18, 2013.
It was organised by MDC, the Museum Documentation Centre, partnered by five more institutions; the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Croatian Music Institute, the Mimara Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Arts
and Crafts. The objective of the event was to bring together musicologists and museum professionals as well as other people in heritage, cultural and educational activities so as to think through together the theoretical and practical issues related to the phenomenon of music.
The programme committee, chaired by Višnja Zgaga, the head of the project, particularly pointed out that it wanted to draw attention to Croatia’s having no music museum, and to try to encourage the founding of such an institution. During the three days of the symposium, there were 41 addresses, including seven from participants coming from abroad, the authors of which were renowned experts in the area of museology, musicology and instrument restoration. The morning programme of expert and scholarly lectures was held in the Mimara Museum, while for the afternoon sessions with accompanying musical events the symposium moved to the Richter Collection, the Gvozdanović Palace and the Atrium of the Croatian Academy. In the spirit of the idea of music in the museum, performing as part of the symposium were AV/E! Polis, Konstantin Krasnitski, Đana Kahriman and Orest Shourgut, performing compositions in the settings and on instruments that are part of the Croatian music heritage The symposium was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the President of the Republic of Croatia, Dr Ivo
Josipović. The participants agreed that the theme discussed had a major cultural importance for Croatia, and that the symposium had
merely broached the numbers of questions related to the musical heritage. As a first event embodying the aspiration to give a
systematic review of the musical heritage, the symposium certainly brought the profession together and set the foundations for
further dealings with this problem area.
