The Production Characteristics of Several Resistant Wine Varieties of the Zagreb Winegrowing Area

Sažetak

In order to introduce several resistant grape varieties in the National Variety List of the Republic of Croatia, trial field of varieties Bačka, Bianca, Merzling, Orion, Panonija, Phoenix, Sirius, Staufer and Regent was planted on the experiment station Jazbina of the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb. The research was conducted in the period 2007–2012, and special emphasis was put on the expression of the production characteristics of these varieties in the Zagreb winegrowing
area.
Uvometric measurements and the mechanical analysis of bunch and berries were conducted, showing good flesh/solid residue ratio and small to medium bunches, both being typical for wine varieties. The analysis of must determined high qualitative potential, and bud fertility
coefficients showed high productive potential. Wine analysis showed a high amount of alcohol with favourable acid content and high total extract; this resulted in high grades at tastings, conducted during several years of experiments. Bianca and Regent stand out from the
rest of the sorts by their wine quality, gaining an average grade of 80 points on wine testing. Nevertheless, wines of the remaining sorts were in the most productive years also classified as quality wines.
