The paper wants to point out the importance of stimulating optimal experience under the theory of Michael Csikszentmihalyi and peak experience and self-actualization of the individual under same name theory of Abraham Maslow (1963) in music education. Considering the important role of music and creativity in the child’s overall development, the aim of this paper is to point out the importance of fostering these phenomena in the music education from the child’s first encounter with the music and instrument. As one of the fundamental methodological approaches which lead to the stated aim, is stressed the child’s creative expression through improvisation. This paper presents the child’s true experience of sound and music through spontaneous improvisation in musical - pedagogical concept of Functional Music Pedagogy Elly Bašić. It was concluded that an overall development of a child’s personality, freedom and spontaneity, child’s active experience of matter and a love for music are important factors for fostering child’s creative expression that emphasize humanistic and positive psychology and musical -pedagogical concept of Functional Music Pedagogy as well. The child’s experience of music and sound as a result of creative expression through spontaneous improvisation stimulates peak and optimal experiences and individual’s self-actualization through music education. Perception of such experiences develops in child a sense of happiness, value and love for music which in turn stimulates child’s interest and motivation for music.
