Lesions due to triphenyl acetate (»Brestan«)

Sažetak

In the last years there has been an increased interest in organic tin compounds because of their pronounced fungicidal effect. Among a great many organic tin compounds, triphenyltin acetate has proved to have a particularly good fungicidal effect. It is used as the active substance of »Brestan«, a latterly widely used fungicide. In 1963 and 1965 the authors followed up a group of workers seasonally engaged in the production of a 20% triphenyl acetate concentration of »Brestan«. During the hottest summer days (in June and August) the workers engaged in the dustiest working places developed irritative changes on the conjunctiva, the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, and especially on the skin (hands and the scrotum). However, as soon as the exposure ceased, all these changes disappeared without any therapy. No changes in the central nervous system were observed in these workers.
