Occupational dermatoses in oil refining

Sažetak

The results are presented of the investigations into the effect of oil and its products on the skin of 736 workers in an oil refinery and 335 workers in a transport enterprise. A considerable number of evidenced occupational dermatoses proved characteristic of the effect of oil products on the skin while a minor part proved to have resulted from the effect of various chemicals used in oil refining processes. Changes characteristic of occupational dermatoses were observed in 31.1 percent of oil refining workers and in 15.8 percent of the control group. The most frequent findings were acneiform changes, as well as such common changes as atrophies, fissures, ulcerations, etc. The occurrence of allergic occupational dermatoses in relation to the total number of occupational skin' changes was insignificant. The difference between a considerably higher number of occupational dermatoses in oil refining workers and the number of occupational dermatoses in the control group has proved statistically significant. This indicates that this comparatively high occurrence of occupational dermatoses in oil refining workers is for the most part due to the effect of oil and its products.
