Sažetak

This investigation is undertaken to examine the validity of some tests designed for the selection of applicants for the School of Male Hospital Attendants in Varaždin. The study was based on the information relating to the work performed in this School and the qualifications required for that kind of work. Practical work in the School is similar to that of a qualified hospital male attendant. The rank-order of 26 students made by the headmaster of the School, a person in everyday contact with students both in school and work, was taken as a criterion of school and job success, and accordingly, as a criterion of the validation of the tests. It is found that some tests used in the Vocational Guidance Centre at Varaždin have satisfactorily high validity coefficients for the job in question. These tests are the Beta and the first subtests of the Alpha series, the Progressive Matrices, and the Tiffin Finger Dexterity Test. Their validity coefficients are significant at 5% or 1% level or less. The validity coefficients for the Immediate Memory Test (concrete nouns) is almost significant at 5% level. Owing to the criterion, which is not quite satisfactory, and the small number of subjects, the results obtained are to be used with certain reserve. Further investigations in the same direction are needed.
