Sažetak
The aims of this investigation were to examine the differences between young athletes and non-athletes in perceived quality of life, to test metric characteristics of the Parental Pressure in Sport Questionnaire (PPSQ), and to investigate the relationship between parental pressure and quality of life among young athletes. The sample comprised 100 young athletes (Mage= 12.4 yr) and 71 non-athletes (Mage = 12.5 yr). Quality of life was measured using The Kidscreen – 52 questionnaire (Lorger, Barić, 2012) comprising 11 subscales. The results showed that young athletes and non-athletes perceived themselves to have similar overall quality of life, but young athletes reported significantly higher physical well-being and significantly lower satisfaction with family environment. The PPSQ, applied here for the first time, showed satisfactory reliability but relatively low sensitivity. Factor analysis identified two components of parental pressure: parental criticism, which correlated negatively with quality of life, and parental expectations, which did not correlate significantly with quality of life.
