Sažetak

The author reviews the mechanical properties of muscles in the light of the most recent investigations. The following problems are discussed more fully: isometric contraction, isotonic contraction, dynamic performance with various types of load, twitch and tetanus, the »active state« and the characteristic curves of muscles.
