AN ADDITION TO KNOWLEDGE OF MIGRATION OF THE PEOPLE FROM KRIVI PUT

Sažetak
This work had two goals. The first was to show the migration of the people from Krivi Put during the 20th century and the second was to discover today’s relationship between the emigrants and their ancestors with the local community of Krivi Put. The best day to research this is the holiday of the Our Lady of the Snow in Krivi Put when all of them gather there. The stories about the migrations of the inhabitants are related to the 20th century. These stories are different to the stories about the arrivals of the emigrants from Krivi Put to the celebration of Our Lady of the Snow with the emphasis on 2004. In the article are presented the different forms of migrations abroad (transcontinental, to the west of Europe, neighbouring countries), and migration within Croatia (mostly to Slavonia and to closer urban centres). The author researched the factors about migrations, whether they were temporary, permanent, seasonal, wandering, continuous…. and to understand the factors of suppression and attraction (‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors). The main reason of the migration of the people from Krivi Put was economic stagnation in the agriculture, urbanisation, non-existing infrastructure and communications with close urban centres. The author also presents the temporary returns home of those who left the local community or their permanent return. She also intended to know about the relationships between emigrants and their ancestors with their relatives in Krivi Put. Only a very few emigrated people from Krivi Put returned to there to live and most of them only live there during the summer. Large numbers of them who live in Croatia today build houses on the coast in the larger urban-tourist centres such as Senj, Crkivenica, Novi Vinodolski. They all gather in Krivi Put for the celebration of Our Lady of the Snow.
