The 25th anniversary of kidney explantation in Osijek

Sažetak
The first kidney explantation in Osijek was performed on June, 13th, 1989, at the Urology Department of the General Hospital Osijek. On June, 13th, 2014 the 25th anniversary of that significant event is to be celebrated. The first explantation was performed by a team of domestic experts, urologists: Assist. Prof. Antun Tucak and Željko Petek, MD, anaesthesiologists Zlatko Houra, MD and Mira Duvnjak, MD and head operating room nurse Mila Gašpar, BA (Nursing), together with their guests from Zagreb, head surgeons on that occasion, Prof. Dr. Mladen Vidović and Josip Pasini, MD, Ph.D. The coordinator of the event was Vesna Rupčić, M.Sc., MD, Head of the Dialysis Department. At that time, the Head of the Urology Department was Primarius Ignac Stipić, MD, and Head Manager of the General Hospital Osijek was Dubravko Božić, MD, Ph.D. With that first explantation Osijek had become the second hospital centre in the Republic of Croatia (along with Pula) where kidney explantation was performed, without transplantation.
