Sažetak

Tests are described permitting to determine the presence of dangerous absorption of such industrial poisons as lead, benzene and mercury. L e a d. A very reliable test for observing whether and to what extent workmen are -exposed to the dangerous influence of lead is the amount of lead secreted in urine. In view of the fact that this method is both expensive and slow in yielding results, the author describes also the porphyrin test. Every increase of lead absorption causes Increased secretion of coproporphyrin in urine, therefore porphyrinuria may be depended upon as a reliable sign of dangerous absorption of lead. Tracing coproporphyrin in the way erlier described by the author permits detecting even those first small changes in the amount of porphyrin secreted in urine caused by an increased absorption of lead. The porphyrin test is cheap, simple and reliable to such an extent that the doctor can depend upon it in assessing lead poisoning hazards. B e n z e n e. There exists an established relation between anorganic and esteric sulphates secreted in urine. Every increase in benzene absorption reflects itself in an increased secretion of esteric sulphates thus disturbing the established relation between anorganic and esteric sulphates secreted in urine. Therefore every increase in esteric sulphates is a sure sign of an increased absorption of benzene, and the measurement of the relation between anorganic and esteric sulphates secreted in urine, as described in the article, may be regarded as a reliable test for assessing the degree of the benzene poisoning hazard. – M e r c u r y. At the end the author describes the new microcatalytic method of tracing mercury in urine which may be used as a sure test for detecting dangerous mercury absorption.
