Sažetak
The aim of this article is to provide social, strategic, economic and construction arguments for the construction of a modern railway line of high capacity on the Lepoglava – Krapina route, i.e. Lepoglava railway connection (further referred to as “Lepoglava railway connection“). This also presupposes modernization of all approach lines and providing quality local and international railway lines for passenger and freight transport. Even though the construction of the line is supported in some strategic documents at national and local levels (physical plans and strategies), the author of this article is of the opinion that is has not been valued enough as an important connection of Northern Croatia with Zagreb and the Adriatic area, nor has the value of its potential international role been sufficiently recognized. The article provides a summarized analysis of three possible variants for the path of the new line.
