Sažetak

There are approximately 110 millions diabetic patients worldwide, 15% out of which have or used to have changes on feet. The stated number indicates greatness of the problem which is first faced by patients, their families and then by the society where they live. The leading etiopathogenetic agent is diabetic disease with changes on small and large blood vessels and nerves and lots of other disturbances. Besides a detailed case history, for diagnostic purposes we currently use noninvasive (ultrasound of blood vessels, x-ray
feet wound smear) and invasive methods (arteriography) to determine the level of the present changes. Treatment is carried out by the regulation of carbohydrate metabolism for the inhibition of inflammatory changes. Most important is a good education of patients
and their family on the appropriate foot care.
