Sažetak

A total of 105 patients with symptomatic bladder neck obstruction and benign prostatic hypertrophy were entered into a prospective, randomized study, comparing combined visual laser ablation of the prostate (Nd:YAG Laser, right angled delivery system, Cytocare, "Prolase") and transurethral prostate resection versus standard transurethral prostate resection. Efficacy of treatment was assessed by standardized American Urological Association symptom score, patient assessement of symptom improvement, peak urinary flow rates, post-void residual urine volumes, sexual function intraoperative bleeding, intraoperative and postoperative complications. Patients were evaluted 1, 3 and 12 months after treatment. The obstructive, irritative and total scores did not differ sugnificantly (p > 0.05) between two treatment groups. According to our data, the combined visual laser ablation and transurethral resection of the prostate is equivalent or even superior to TURP, but treatment time and costs are increasing.
