Immune response of hemodialysis patients to hepatitis B vaccine

Sažetak

In the Hemodialysis Centre of the General Hospital Osijek 22 patients with chronic renal insufficiency have been examined for anti-HBs formation after the vaccination with HBV vaccine. No correlation has been found between the age of patients, body weight, the period of the hemodialysis treatment, basic disease, HLA type, number of lymphocytes, PPD and the vaccination results. Only 46 % of vaccinated men developed antibodies after standard vaccination with 20 ug antigens, whereas 100 % of women developed protective titer of the antibodies. This opposes the recommended double dose vaccination for all hemodialysis patients. Double dose administration is necessary to be applied only in the vaccination of male patients.
