The Structure of the Regional Board of the Yugoslav State Railways in Zagreb (1918–1941)

The article chronologically shows the changes in structure, real and territorial jurisdiction of the Regional Board of the Yugoslav State Railways (YSR) in Zagreb after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes until the beginning of the Second World War (1918–1941). The article also lists the railway boards in Belgrade, Subotica, Ljubljana and Sarajevo authorized for some railway lines that went through the Croatian territory. The most important normative acts that regulated the formation and structure of the railways were passed on 26 December 1918, 25 February 1919, 21 May 1921 and 30 March 1927. At the end of 1933 a new draft of the Decree on Organization of the Railways Administration was created, defining the state railways as a traffic economic company under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Traffic. By this decree, which was never passed, the railways were supposed to be based on a commercial base. The article also briefly outlines the state of different railways systems in the areas of the newly established Kingdom, as well as the issues of incorporating them into a single whole.
