Sažetak

This paper describes the restoration and preservation of the antiphonary Liber Antiphonarius Ecclesiae Cathedralis Zagrabiensis (MR 1) which dates from 1501 and is now owned by the Zagreb Cathedral. The antiphonary was bound in a heavy wooden binding, covered with brown leather with iron mountings and visible traces of clasps. It was rebound at least once in the past, but due to the flawed data and descriptions of the book, it cannot be said for sure what the original binding looked like. The aim of this paper is to present the restoration and conservation of the antiphonary, including the method of sewing the book block. Attempts have been made to find similar binding descriptions and information about the book, so that it would be possible to do the restoration and conservation work more authentically, thus sustaining the ´history´ of the book. The covers of the antiphonary were in an extremely poor condition. In order to preserve the original appearance of the book, the wooden boards, metal mountings, clasps and leather have been conserved and restored. It was also necessary to reconstruct seven wedges and two clasps.
