Visioneers of a Better Tomorrow. The Influence of Futurological Narratives on the Social Construction of Future in Space

Sažetak
Narratives about possible futures affect relevant actors in the present, which is why it is necessary to reassess the political and social connotations of futurological narratives. Visionaries\engineers (Visioneers) are important elements of legitimation and adaptation to forthcoming technologies. Their importance is especially prominent in framing the narrative of Newspace, a collective of space companies, led by the charismatic persona of Elon Musk. His visionary characteristics and strategies are key for the promotion and legitimation of narratives about the possibilities of colonizing new planets and the future of people in space. It is important to study the way in which NewSpace gathers support from the public for its vision of the future because their framing of technologies and services they sell contains implicit values of colonialism and capitalism, as well as certain elements of utopian thinking.
