Approaches to Teaching Film Adaptations of a Literary Work in Primary Education

Sažetak

In the fourth grade of primary school, students, for the first time, encounter the unit Comparison of film and literary work. In doing so, students have to notice similarities and differences between a literary work and its film adaptation. The aim of this paper was to research the manner in which teachers teach the mentioned unit. Does the teacher take on the film or literary approach, i.e. does the teacher approach the mentioned topic as a medium or literary text? The research was carried out on a sample of N=457 primary school teachers in the City of Zagreb. The results lead to the conclusion that teachers, regardless of work experience, grade level taught and knowledge of film techniques, mostly do not take on (use) the film approach when teaching the unit Comparison of film and literary work.
