Sažetak

Control of biologically active substances (bio-residues) in food is a very important part of veterinary public health, particularly now in circumstances of intensive food production in which various chemical substances are often used. Of great importance is also the use of veterinary medicines in animals and possibility of adverse effects on human health if such residues remain in foodstuffs of animal origin. In that sense, veterinarians and farmers are also an important link of the safe food production chain. They should act in accordance with good manufacturing and agricultural practices. Following the general trend of harmonization of national legislation with the EU legislation, Croatian legislation on bio-residues will also be harmonized accordingly and that will be a step forward for an appropriate and efficacious protection of consumers’ health
