PESTS IN THE BLUEBERRIES IN VARAŽDIN COUNTY DURING 2017 AND 2018

Sažetak
The cultivation of blueberries in the last few years is expanding in the territory of the Croatia and there is an upward trend in the Varaždin County. Due to the general situation in the market of traditional cultures, many farmers decide on the cultivation of new non‐traditional cultures, primarily because of high fruit prices. In addition, blueberry is well tolerated by high and low temperatures. In breeding, blueberry is attacked by numerous categories of harmful organisms, most important of which are diseases and pests. A variety of fungal diseases occur on the blueberry disease, which can be divided into two groups that attack roots and shoots: rotting of roots, cancer of the leaves and the licking of leaves and diseases affecting the flowering, generative organs and fruits: chaffin bloom and rotting stalk (Monilinia vacciniicorymbosi), gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides). Of the aforementioned diseases, the biggest problem in the area of Varaždin is root rot, leaf dropping and gray mold. Besides diseases, pests also pose a problem in the cultivation of blueberries. In the area of Varaždin County, the most significant are the winter moths (Operophtera sp.), which at the beginning of flowering obscure and destroy the generative organs and the cetonid beetles (Tropinota hirta). Blueberries require easy and loose soil that is the ideal habitat for rodents that dig through the corridors to overturn roots and make additional damage to the plants. Significant damages to the ripe fruit of the blueberries are made by birds, and they must be led by their breeding ground. If pear trees provide all the necessary growth conditions, they are timely protected from these harmful organisms and cultures can be income and debt.
