Sažetak

This paper examines the relationship between scientific literacy and public attitudes toward
science in Croatia, as well as their sociodemographic determinants. The research was conducted
by personal interview within the omnibus survey on a representative multistage stratified
sample of 1000 inhabitants of the Republic of Croatia. The findings of this study indicate a
low level of scientific literacy, but still predominantly positive attitudes towards science, with
some indications of retradition. The findings also indicate a significant but weak relationship
between the level of scientific literacy and (positive) attitudes toward science, which is consistent
with the findings of foreign research.
