Sažetak

Presently, three basic types of deer rearing are recognized, natural, extensive fenced type and deer farming. Despite the term, deer farming is still rather extensive type of rearing (semiintensive) producing the venison with several advantages when compared to other two types of rearing. In the farmed conditions it is much easier to control reproduction, supplemental feeding, weaning, slaughter procedures and transport to the abattoir. In this paper essentials of deer rearing are presented with the emphasis on venison production. Furthermore, several guidelines are addressed for future, expecting development of game farming in the Republic of Croatia.
