Sažetak The significant role that Ivan Goran Kovačić City Library’s work plays in the society has been recognised since its founding until this day. That work includes its educational, cultural, sociological and societal influence. The library tries to work in the best interest of its members by creating various programmes, which makes it the central place for cultural development, and also the place where people can spend their leisure time in an effective and positive way. In that regard, Pupils’ Days programme, which has been conducted for more than 20 years (since 1996) at the Children’s Department during holidays, deserves special attention. The aim of the programme is to spend free time in a useful way which is accomplished by means of different workshops that children choose according to their interests. The programme results in members acquiring knowledge and skills, as well as developing reading habits and self-confidence through active participation in the workshops. The programme stimulated the rise in the total number of pupils’ visits to the library and it also encouraged them to use other services in the library. The library attracts more and more children from other areas who spend their holidays here so Pupils’ Days can also be seen as contribution to the tourist promotion of our city.
