Sažetak

Chimica, dating from 1833, is one of the preserved manuscripts on natural sciences and part of Dubrovnik's scientific heritage. It is considered to have been written by Viktor Kuzmić, a pharmacist and a well-known figure in Dubrovnik's scientific milieu, during his studies at the University of Padua.
The preserved part of the manuscript gives detailed descriptions of the contemporary chemical methods such as the isolation of quinine from bark of the cinchona (Pelletier, Caventou /1820/ and others), the preparation of quinine sulphate (E C. Henry /1827/ and others), and the preparation of ether (Boullay /1811/ and others). The advantages and disadvantages of a particular method are also pointed out.
The manuscript reflects European scientific ideas of the 1830 s. It is of particular interest to us as it dates from earlier steps of the development of inorganic chemistry.
