Sažetak

Railway companies invest significant resources to ensure technical traffic conditions. Efforts have been made to increase the level of expertise and conscientiousness among the railroad workers. This means that 90% of extraordinary traffic events are caused by the behavior of third parties. Therefore, railway companies must consider traffic safety in a wider context as well. This is one of the fundamental approaches of the “safety.guru INSTITUTE”. It is no longer sufficient to collect traffic accidents statistics and protect oneself from liability. Socially responsible transport companies must put people at the center of the traffic system and be able to detect their traffic behavior.
In order to consider the wider context of traffic safety as well as the causes of extraordinary events, psychology experts are becoming increasingly involved. Transport and psychology must go hand in hand. We have, therefore, constructed a matrix by combining the areas of safety, culture, traffic and psychology. For each of these areas, we first identified their key elements and then weighted them by importance. The functionality of the matrix was tested by teams of students at “Libertas International University” and “University Hrvatsko Zagorje Krapina”. The matrix was applied in the analysis of traffic conditions at the intersections of road and railroad traffic. Our aim was to increase awareness of traffic hazards and encourage systematic thinking among students. We present the results from our analysis of the application of the matrix, alongside students’ comments and suggestions on its content.
