Sažetak

In their years-long work the teachers of music (teaching instrument playing) have been encountering a whole array of difficulties with students training for future teachers. Why
does a teacher need to sing, manage the instrument playing skills, read notes? Why weren’t the musical skills tested on the classification exam if academic success depends on them? Why do music skills take up so much time to acquire and practise? These are only some of the questions that students ask at the beginning of their academic life and they are closely related to their music knowledge as well as their attitudes to the place and
importance of music both in the educational structure of primary schools and the life of a modern person. In order to clarify problems and difficulties encountered by students and
teachers alike in their joint work during music education at the teachers’ training college, we have attempted to comment on the most pronounced and the most important ones.
