Sažetak

Breeding program was based on using heterosis effect for litter size property by crossbreeding genetic distant breeds. Heterosis for number of piglets born alive changes with sows age and number of litters. The study was based on data from nucleus pig farm provided by Croatian Livestock Centre for the period between 1993 and 2004. Research included 31747 parities from 6753 sows of Swedish Landrace, Large White and both F1 sows. Number of piglets born (NB), number of piglets born alive (NBA), length of lactation (PL) and weaning to conception interval (IOK) were analyzed. The number of piglets born alive increased to the fifth parity, and then slowly decreased. Sows farrowed in average 10.43 NB and 9.81 NBA. Crossbreeds farrow 0.3 NBA more then purebred sows. Age at first farrowing in primiparous sows was 364 days. On farm, lactation length was shorter for four days compared with legislation in EU. Based on the results of this paper it could be sad that sows reproductive possibilities are not enough exploited. Increased fertility of crossbreeds sows under breeding program could be achieved by improving genetic base of pure breeds from own breed.
