Sažetak

Within the framework of a Programme of scientific-research, financed by Croatian Forests,
Ltd. (Hrvatske {ume d.o.o.), Zagreb, an investigation was carried out on the assignment
Growth of Different Provenances of Domestic and Foreign Tree Species (1.2.3). In the
Introduction of this study general data are given on the results of investigation of different
provenances in the experiments with Peduncled oak, Common beech, Scotch pine, Douglas
fir, Eastern White pine and European larch. Investigations on the growth of different provenances
of Common beech started in Croatia in 1993, with inclusion in the International
Project "Assessment of Genetic Sources of Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in Europe".
This Project was carried out by the Institute of Forestry Genetics in Grosshandorf, Germany.
During 2005 investigations joined an International Project COST E 52, in which 23
European countries took part. 36 different provenances of Common beech were included in
the experiment, which was established in the region of the "Kutina" Forestry Office (forest
section Kutinska Garjevica), Forest Administration Branch Office Zagreb, 1998. The experiment
was established in 1988 in three replications and included provenances from the region
of the natural range of Common beech distribution in Europe.
Since the autumn of 1998, measurements of heights and registration of survival has
been carried out, and during the spring of 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, flushing of plants
was monitored in seven phenophases. So far investigations of Common beech variability in
Croatia (survival of plants, heights and increments, flushing) indicate that genetic differentiation
exists, which is determined by numerous ecological factors. Provenances from Croatia,
Slovenia and Ukraine have so far proved to be the best.
