THE VICTIMOLOGY OF GERMANS FROM POŽEGA AND THE VALLEY OF POŽEGA (WORLD WAR II AND THE POSTWAR PERIOD)

Sažetak
Based on data found in German historiography and the historiography of the Danube Swabians (Donauschwaben), as well as Croatian/ Yugoslavian historiography, historical publicist writing, press and archival materials, and especially name lists/ victimologies, the author presents the numbers and names indicative of the sufferers and victims, i.e. German soldiers and civilians from Požega and the Valley of Požega who were killed, murdered, died or went missing during World War II and the postwar period. According to the name indicators that have so far been established for Požega and 44 villages in the Valley of Požega, at least 301 Germans from Požega and the Valley of Požega lost their lives during World War II and in the postwar period. Approximately a half of the aforementioned number of casualties (men) were killed, murdered, died or went missing in the capacity of members of military and/ or paramilitary troops during World War II, but also in the postwar period. The remaining casualties (men, women and children) were killed, murdered, died or went missing in the capacity of civilian population during World War II and the postwar period. In addition, approximately forty civilians were murdered or died during the postwar period, in 1945 and 1946, predominantly in camps. The paper endeavors to integrally display actual casualties among the Germans in Požega and the Valley of Požega during World War II and the postwar period, accompanied by a revision of often incomplete and/ or conflicting data found in German and Croatian publications and papers that brought name lists of casualties in Požega and the Valley of Požega.
