WINTER WHEAT LINES WITH GOOD RESISTANCE TO FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT (Fusarium graminearum Schw.)

Sažetak
fungal diseases occurring in wheat production. In addition to reducing the yield it affects grain quality because certain mycotoxins have a harmful effect on health of humans and domestic animals. Breeding for resistance to this disease i.e. production of resistant varieties is the most effective means of control. The aim of this investigation was to test new wheat lines for resistance to artificial inoculation with Fusarium graminearum Schw., to select the resistant ones for further use in the breeding process, before submitting them for official testing. New wheat lines were tested for resistance to fusarium head blight at the experimental field in Botinec under conditions of artificial inoculation. Most lines were tested in preliminary trials without replication, and the most promising ones were tested in exact small-scale trials. In the preliminary trial that included 194 genotypes, evaluation was made using the visual index (VRI %) and the most resistant lines to fusarium head blight were: 2692/05 (0,00), 5601/06 (0,13), 5597/06 (0,13), 2512/04 (0,25), 5561/06 (0,25), 5608/06 (0,25), 2417/04 (0,50), 6068/06 (0,50), 7739/05 (0,75), 4888/06 (1,38), 2559/05 (1,50) and 6065/04 (1,88). The exact small-scale trial included 25 genotypes in all among which also standards for resistance: Roazon, Poncheau and (D48 x 42 x 6)2. The following lines turned out to be resistant: 9362/99 (0,54), 5377/05 (1,50), 6045/04 (2,00), 2596/05 (6,17), 9327/99 (7,08) and 2368/05 (9,71). Evaluation of lines under artificial inoculation with fusarium head blight proved as an effective additional criteria for selection of individual winter wheat lines.
